Encoders

Absolute chip encoder for the direct pcb mounting
Integrate a space-saving and precise robuste encoder into your drive

Aura P is a high-resolution absolute chip encoder with an extremely compact design. Aura P offers high accuracy, high speeds, and wide alignment tolerances, and is now easier than ever to install and integrate, allowing you to benefit from shorter time-to-market.

Additional, the small, low-power SMT package is now integrated into an OEM circuit board and ready for immediate use. When used with BiSS-C, it provides the low latency required for control loops with high bandwidth. Generous alignment tolerances simplify installation. The integrated scale eccentricity compensation improves production efficiency and eliminates the need for encoders with double averaging.

FAQ

How does Aura P handle eccentricity when mounting scales and bearing play?
Scale eccentricity and bearing runout have a significant impact on accuracy. For example, an eccentricity of 0.1 mm results in a significant angular deviation of 0.44°. Minimizing eccentricity can be difficult; the scale calibration process is time-consuming, and averaging the error using two scanning heads may not be possible when space and resources are limited. For this reason, the Aura P was developed with built-in eccentricity compensation that can be performed via the SmartPrecision III software.
Can Aura P linear glass scales be cut to size on-site?
Yes, you can cut Aura P glass scales to shorter lengths. However, you must take a few precautions. There is a buffer zone at both ends of the scale. These zones prevent the Aura P from visually slipping out of the grid patterns. If the buffer zones are altered by shortening the scale, the Aura P may report an incorrect position at one of the two ends of the scale. Therefore, before cutting, ensure that there is sufficient measurement distance to include the buffer zones at both ends of the motion axis. The mechanical alignment can be found in the “Installation” section of the data sheet. The encoder optics should always be at least 2.4576 mm away from the edge of the scale. This value accounts for 0.02 mm of potential glass edge chipping and defects that may result from the cutting process.
